BBVA Spark & Banking for Growth are the business area within BBVA that are responsible for serving high growth companies (seed, early growth, scaleup and unicorns) and VC funds in all of their financial services needs, including but not limited to transactional products, short-term traditional lending, venture debt and growth loans.

Within BBVA Spark & Banking for Growth, the Product and Channel New Business Models team is responsible for:

  • Identifying innovations trends related to new technologies in the banking/financial industry (e.g. BaaS, APIs, Embedded finance, DeFi, etc)

  • Analyzing and defining new business opportunities that fit with BBVA Spark overall strategy.

  • Sizing the opportunities related to Banking as a Service value proposition, among others, and mapping competitive landscape.

  • Defining monetization strategies to capture value from the new business models value propositions, together with assessment of investment requirements.

About the job:

BBVA Spark is expanding its debt platform in Europe by scaling a dedicated Warehouse / Asset-Backed Lending (ABL) business. Based in Madrid, this role will support the origination, structuring and execution of warehouse financing transactions across the region, with a strong focus on fintech and other high-growth, asset-intensive business models.

As demand for flexible and non-dilutive capital solutions continues to grow, warehouse lending has become a key component of the funding stack for technology companies. The Associate will play a supporting role in consolidating BBVA Spark’s positioning in this space, leveraging the bank’s existing infrastructure, global risk framework and strong ecosystem presence in innovation banking.

This is a hands-on analytical and execution-focused role within Spark, supporting senior team members in deal execution, portfolio management and client coverage, as well as coordinating with internal stakeholders across the bank.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Transaction Structuring & Execution

  • Support the origination, structuring and execution of warehouse / asset-backed lending transactions across Europe.

  • Assist in the design and analysis of financing structures through bankruptcy-remote SPVs, including waterfalls, advance rates, eligibility criteria, triggers and credit enhancements.

  • Prepare and review financial models, including scenario analysis under different assumptions.

  • Support the team in dealing with internal approval processes including investment memo preparation, IC presentations, and documentation reviews.

  • Meet with prospective clients and perform preliminary assessments to determine whether opportunities fit within the unit’s risk appetite.

2. Product Strategy & Market Development

  • Contribute to market research and competitor benchmarking to identify emerging trends in fintech, proptech and other asset-intensive verticals.

  • Assist in preparing materials and presentations for internal strategy discussions and client pitches.
     

3. Client Relationship Management

  • Support relationship managers in maintaining client relationships with fintech and technology companies with recurring and financeable asset portfolios.

  • Assist in client onboarding, data collection and transaction monitoring.

  • Help prepare client proposals, term sheets, and pitch materials.

  • Coordinate across internal teams (legal, risk, operations) to ensure smooth transaction execution and best-in-class client experience.

4. Portfolio & Risk Management

  • Monitor portfolio performance, track key risk indicators, and prepare regular reports for management and risk committees.

  • Assist in early warning analysis and follow-up on performance deviations or restructuring needs.

  • Collaborate with servicers and trustees to ensure accurate collateral reporting and data integrity.

  • Support the definition and monitoring of portfolio concentration and credit limits.

5. Team Support & Internal Coordination

  • Work closely with senior team members in executing transactions and developing the Warehouse Lending business.

  • Contribute to internal presentations for the Investment Committee and product forums.

  • Collaborate with BBVA’s CIB and risk teams to leverage internal capabilities and ensure consistent processes.

  • Participate in training and knowledge-sharing initiatives within Spark.

What We Are Looking For:

Educational Background:

  • Finance, Economics, Engineering or related fields. 

  • Postgraduate degrees or professional certifications (CFA, MBA) are a plus but not required.

Relevant Experience:

  • 2–5 years’ experience in structured finance, private credit, warehouse lending, ABS, or related corporate finance roles.

  • Experience supporting or executing structured transactions for fintech or technology-related clients is desirable.

  • Understanding of structured lending concepts, SPV structures, and risk analysis.

Technical & Product Skills

  • Experience in financial modeling, data analysis and presentation tools.

  • Basic understanding of structured finance documentation and transaction processes.

  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple workstreams under tight deadlines.

  • Familiarity with European legal and regulatory environments is an advantage
