About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated Application Scientist to join our team in a commercially focused role that combines scientific and technical expertise with strong business acumen. The ideal candidate will serve as a key technical resource for our products and solutions, while actively supporting commercial objectives and driving customer success through a business-oriented mindset. This is a 50/50 field and lab-based role with travel across Europe and the UK with some potential travel to the US and Asia. In this commercially driven role, you will engage directly with customers to provide hands-on technical support, training, and product demonstrations, ensuring not only successful adoption of our technologies but also contributing to sound business decisions that drive opportunities and growth.
 
As an Application Scientist, you will play a key role in bridging the gap between our R&D, sales, and customers. helping to translate scientific needs into effective solutions while representing the company in a professional and collaborative manner. You will spend up to 50% of your time in the field, training and directly supporting customers. The other 50% of your time will be spent in our laboratories at our Berlin Headquarters, providing technical support, running demonstrations and carrying out proof-of-principal studies, ready to hand over to our development or sales teams. 

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver technical presentations, demonstrations, and training sessions to customers and partners across Europe, with occasional travel to the US and Asia.
  • Provide pre- and post-sales scientific support, working closely with the commercial team to ensure customer success and satisfaction.
  • Quotation writing for applications support work or in conjunction with our development team for custom application services.  
  • Act as the primary technical contact for customer queries, troubleshooting, and application-related problem solving.
  • Collaborate with the product development and marketing teams by relaying customer feedback, application data, and emerging market trends.
  • Prepare technical documents, application notes, and training materials to support customer education and product promotion.
  • Attend scientific conferences, trade shows, and customer meetings as a company representative.
  • Maintain accurate records of customer interactions, training, and support activities.
  • Troubleshooting device performance and optimizing workflows in the field.
Your profile
  • Advanced degree (MSc or PhD preferred) in Biomedical Engineering, Microfluidics, Materials Science, Analytical Chemistry, or a closely related field.
  • Hands-on experience in medical diagnostics, biosensor development, microfluidics, or device prototyping is highly desirable.
  • Industry or postdoctoral experience involving application development, proof-of-concept studies, or technical support.
  • Previous experience in a customer-facing scientific role (applications, field support, or technical sales) preferred.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work across biology, chemistry, physics, and engineering disciplines.
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards (e.g., ISO 13485, ISO 9001) is an advantage.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive, solution-focused mindset.
  • High degree of flexibility, independence, and willingness to travel up to 50%.
  • Fluent English is required; Fluency in German is preferred, additional European language is an advantage
