About Us:

Foxdale Village, a life plan community guided by Quaker values, is a non-profit Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) located in State College, PA. Foxdale was founded in 1985 by members of the State College Friends Meeting and is founded on the values of treating all with dignity and respect. Foxdale is regarded as a premier healthcare facility both locally and nationally and has been voted "Best Retirement Community in State College, PA" for over a decade. Foxdale Village includes 57 apartments and 148 cottages and offers a range of health services with 46 beds in skilled nursing for short and long-term care, two memory care neighborhoods, and 55 beds in personal care, all with private accommodations. We currently have an opportunity for a new Cook to join our team.  


We are currently hiring for a Full-Time position and expected work 40 hours per week (11:30am-8pm) and every other weekend/holiday. 


Responsibilities include:

  • Read, understand, and verbally communicate menus to residents and other team members.
  • Safely operate all equipment within the department.
  • Able to use a chef knife safely and efficiently.
  • Able to prepare a wide range of quality food with recipes and some without recipes including special diets (vegan, vegetarian, without gluten...) world cuisines (American, Italian, Indian...), and types (entrees, sides, soups, desserts, sauces...).
  • Maintain a “clean-as-you-go” philosophy.
  • Able to prepare food in a timely manner which is consistent with others in the same position.
  • Able to utilize extra time to find tasks on your own without needed direction from management.
  • Prepare, present and store product using required HACCP standards.
  • Understand entrée specials as well as menu rotation; may research and design additional menu items for the operation.
  • Have ability to “see forward” through the week and utilize product accordingly.
  • Prepare food for special catered events as needed.
  • Able to present and maintain food that is generally considered to be attractive and appealing.
  • Produce grilled/short order items.
  • Wash pots and pans as needed.
  • Assist with any other culinary tasks.
  • Employee may be assigned shifts that are outside of their traditional duties on occasion.
  • May perform guidance or training of other employees.
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned by the head cook or management team.
  • Maintain punctuality and regular, predictable attendance.

Requirements

Cook Minimum Qualifications Include:

  • A high school diploma or its equivalent is preferred. Culinary education is preferred.
  • Two years of quantity food preparation experience is required.
  • Must be able to work holidays and weekends, as scheduled; must be able to follow written and oral directions must be able to interact politely with staff and residents regardless of the circumstances.
  • Must be agile and able to withstand long periods of walking, standing, bending, carrying, or lifting supplies and equipment weighing 50 pounds or more, with assistance when needed. This position requires the completion of mostly non-sedentary work.
  • Must be able to carry out tasks in a fast-paced customer-oriented department; must be aware of relevant hazards; must be able to work effectively with exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures and high noise levels.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate in English.
