As part of the local Critical Operations Team, Critical Operations Technicians (COT) ensure the data center is operating smoothly and efficiently 24/7/365, with no downtime of critical services.
Critical Operations Technicians are responsible for the inspection, operation and maintenance of all equipment associated with the data center.
They are expected to be technically strong with great troubleshooting abilities and a desire to learn and work in a demanding yet rewarding team environment.
The Critical Operations Team's on-site presence is organized in a 24/7 shift schedule, ensuring coverage at all hours of the day, year-round.
Key Responsibilities:
• Perform operational, preventive, and corrective maintenance on all mechanical and electrical equipment as assigned.
• Conduct daily and weekly routine inspections on critical equipment, rooms, and systems, ensuring compliance with quality and efficiency standards.
• Monitor, respond to, and act on alarms from Building Management Systems (BMS), Electrical Power Management Systems (EPMS), and other monitoring tools.
• Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical systems, interpreting diagrams and schematics to detect, repair, and report faulty equipment or unusual conditions.
• Carry out isolation and reinstatement of electrical, cooling, fire alarm, and gas suppression systems when required and authorized.
• Manage and react to emergency situations involving critical equipment, escalating incidents according to established processes and procedures.
• Ensure all plant equipment operates at maximum efficiency and in compliance with industry best practices and regulations.
• Escort personnel when required for security or operational reasons (e.g. clients and vendors).
• Ensure compliance with housekeeping rules, facility manuals, and service agreements, managing vendor reports and follow-ups.
• Maintain accurate logs of completed and pending work in the Facility Management System.
• Support the preparation of technical work quotations and execution of assigned projects and programs.
• Maintain proper storage of documentation related to building infrastructure, systems, and tools.
• Participate in ongoing training, development, and drills to stay updated in relevant disciplines.
• Ensure a proper handover of relevant information within the team as needed.
Job practicalities / Skills, Knowledge, Experience and qualifications:
• Preferably in possession of trade certificate and/or vocational education degree within Electrical or Mechanical discipline or equivalent.
• Preferably experienced with electrical or mechanical systems in a critical environment and/or within a data center.
• In-depth knowledge of various maintenance fundamentals to deal with service and repairs.
• Ability to perform a range of complex work activities with some degree of personal responsibility and autonomy.
• Ability to work alone or collaboratively in a team.
• Attention to detail while maintaining a broad perspective
• Desire and ability to learn new skills and systems.
• Effective interpersonal skills for collaboration with vendors and clients.
• IT and computer skills (MS Office suite) with ability to work in and learn various operating software tools and systems.
• Good written and verbal skills in English and local language (German/Scandinavian/French/Italian languages are a plus).
