Job Description

The Electrical Engineer is responsible for the design, optimization, and technical oversight of photovoltaic (PV) systems, ensuring the efficient and reliable performance of solar power installations. This role involves working closely with project teams, clients, and suppliers to deliver cost-effective and high-quality engineering solutions aligned with industry standards and regulations. The purpose of this role is to support the successful delivery of solar EPC projects by providing technical expertise in PV system design, ensuring compliance with local regulations, and driving innovation to enhance system performance and cost efficiency.

Key challenges

  • Assist with site assessments and feasibility studies for solar PV installations
  • Perform detailed PV system design, including electrical layout drawings, electrical cable loss calculations, bill of materials, electrical schematics, string configurations, and inverter selection
  • Assist in the performance of irradiation analysis, yield simulations and energy performance modelling using tools like inhouse Power BI solutions, PVSyst or similar
  • Develop in-house and/or review technical documentation and production of complete electrical engineering drawing package as well as-built drawings
  • Ensure designs comply with local regulations, standards (IEC, EN), and grid requirements
  • Provide technical support during procurement, including reviewing equipment specifications and supplier evaluations and assist in the preparation of tenders, proposals, and technical reports
  • Collaborate with construction teams to resolve design-related issues during project execution
  • Support commissioning and troubleshooting to ensure systems operate at peak performance
  • Optimize designs for cost, efficiency, and reliability while adhering to company standards
  • Support innovation in PV system designs and oversee the engineering aspects of PV projects from concept to commissioning
  • Serve as a technical point of contact for clients, addressing inquiries and ensuring satisfaction with delivered systems
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and interns and ensure cross-departmental collaboration to meet project objectives
  • Review and approve technical deliverables, including drawings and calculations, before submission
  • Stay updated on industry trends, advancements, and regulatory changes in the European solar market and represent the company in technical forums, conferences, and stakeholder meetings and support the development of internal engineering standards and best practices

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is required preferably in Renewable Energy, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field with a strong background in Electrical Engineering
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in designing and implementing solar PV systems, ideally in a Solar EPC company with a focus on electrical design
  • Experience in large-scale utility or commercial solar projects in Europe
  • Strong knowledge of European grid codes, regulations, and standards (IEC, EN) and of fundamental electrical engineering theory is expected
  • Experience in AutoCAD, electrical schematics, and single-line diagrams (SLDs) 
  • Proficiency in solar PV design software (e.g., PVsyst, AutoCAD, Helios 3D, PVCase, ETAP or similar)
  • Expertise in energy yield calculations, system optimization, and cost estimation
  • Hands-on experience with PV system components (modules, inverters, mounting structures)
  • Familiarity with simulation and data analysis tools like MATLAB or Python is nice to have
  • Relevant certifications in solar PV systems (e.g., NABCEP) or health and safety (e.g., NEBOSH, OSHA) is a plus
  • Electrical Engineering (EE) License, Professional Engineering (PE) License or Chartered Engineer status is an advantage
  • Fluency in English spoken and written is required while additional European languages are a plus
